November marked a major milestone for local Wrightwood artist Patricia Farrell. Cal State San Bernardino’s Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, Dutton Family Student Gallery hosted a solo exhibit of her artwork. This is Patricia’s first ever showing of her artwork in a Gallery.
The name of the exhibit is called “Milestones: Two Dimensional to Three†and features Patricia’s latest works in bronze and stone, as well as earlier works in other mediums.
The exhibit takes you on this artists journey from her early beginnings in pen and ink through watercolor and photography and finally reaching her most current passion sculpting.
Currently Ms. Farrell primarily works in bronze and stone. Quite often working on a bronze project and a stone project at the same time. “I find the contrast between working in stone, where you take away and bronze where you add to create very stimulating.†Said Patricia.
“When selecting a stone I am drawn to its shape, color, movement, density, or any combinations of its unique qualities.†she says describing how she creates a stone sculpture. “I’m never quick to pick up my hammer and chisel, but rather thoughtful until I become familiar with the nooks and crannies of the stone.â€
On November 17, her exhibit opened with a reception, many of Patricia’s friends and colleagues attended showing their support and love of her artwork. Patricia could be seen running from group to group with a beaming smile, obviously proud of her accomplishment and her art and excited to share her passion.
